The Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation is looking for
volunteers/interns to help with our touch tank in Portsmouth
this season (April-October).
We are a Portsmouth, NH-based non-profit organization that works to
promote awareness and conservation of the marine environment through
research and education in New England. We do a lot of outreach and
research from local whale watch boats and through the Isles of Shoals
Steamship Company in Portsmouth, but also provide educational programs,
public presentations, community beach cleanups and student internships
year-round.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in running short educational programs on the dock and aboard the
M/V Thomas Laighton as it cruises in Portsmouth Harbor and to the Isles of
Shoals
- Help maintain the tank and collect new animals/plants for the tank
- Assist with school programs and field trips in other locations
- Design and implement new displays, programs and hands-on activities
Depending on funding, part-time pay may be available. The
position is open to anyone over 18. Ideal candidates will be
outgoing, creative, have a background in marine science or related field
(or be willing to learn quickly!), be willing to work outside in all
weather conditions, and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge with
the public. Training and reference materials will be provided. We will
work with you to obtain college credit if desired. Scheduling can be
flexible.
