New! Sunset & Full Moon Paddle,
and maybe we'll get to see some seals, too!

Friday, October 26, 5:30-9:30 PM (please arrive at the dock in Newburyport by 5 PM).

Rain date for this trip is Saturday, October 27.

Tandems and tagalongs only. Tandems are $100 for two people, tagalongs (bring your own kayak and equipment) are $45.  Call 603-431-0260 or reserve below.

Trip details:

Join Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation for a naturalist-guided kayak paddle on the Merrimack River.  We'll depart from Newburyport, catch the outgoing tide and head out toward the mouth of the Merrimack. Right after we depart, the sun will set, and the full moon will start to rise. Hopefully we'll have a beautiful view of both occasions!  We will head over to Badgers Rocks at the mouth of the Merrimack to try to view the harbor seals hauled out there. Seals tend to be calmer at this time, so we may get some up-close views of the seals.  However, since this is a night-time paddle, the focus of the trip is paddling under the full moon, rather than a seal watch (we'll try to see seals, and that would be a bonus!).  We'll then haul out for a rest and drink hot cocoa, tea and coffee and eat pastries before catching the tide back to Newburyport.   This trip is suitable for beginners on up!

Sunset kayak trip on Aug 21The trip will be guided by naturalists from Plum Island Kayak, and they will be providing all equipment.

To limit the number of boats on the water, tandem kayaks are suggested for this event. They provide added stability and are available at a reduced cost per person. A tagalong (bring-you-own) option is also available.

What to bring: Plum Island Kayak will provide kayak, paddle, and life vest.  Bring clothes suitable for the weather, and rain gear in case of inclement weather (rain or shine event).

Please note: As it says on Plum Island Kayak's web site...  As with the pursuit and watching of all wildlife, sightings can never be guaranteed. Although numerous seals are usually sighted, we can not and do not guarantee that we will encounter seals of any amount or of any specific type.
