You don’t need to be a
scientist, just willing to learn to use some cool scientific
tools. The Hodgson Brook Restoration Project is looking for
people interested in helping to restore the health of the
North Mill Pond by monitoring the condition of Hodgson
Brook. Hodgson Brook is the primary source of pollutants to
the Pond and we need volunteers to help document the
sources.
Projects this season
will include water quality monitoring twice a month,
instream flow measurements, invasive weed studies, illicit
discharge detection surveys and assisting with a community
survey.
We can also use
advocates to help write press releases and generally promote
an awareness of the Brook and its connection to the health
of the North Mill Pond through news articles and
neighborhood outreach activities.
Volunteer training will
be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 6:00-8:00 pm at the NH
Community Technical College on the Pease Tradeport.
Volunteering can make a
difference! In 2005, volunteer monitors discovered a broken
sewer pipe. The pipe was repaired, which eliminated the
discharge of raw sewage going into North Mill Pond.
