Touch Tank Educator Internship/Volunteer Position

Want to get outside and get hands-on experience with marine life?Touch Tank Intern with Visitor

The Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation is looking for volunteers/interns to help with our touch tank in Portsmouth this season (May-October). We are a Portsmouth, NH-based non-profit organization that works to promote awareness and conservation of the marine environment through research and education in New England. We do a lot of outreach and research from local whale watch boats and through the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company in Portsmouth, but also provide educational programs, public presentations, community beach cleanups and student internships year-round.

Responsibilities:
- Educate visitors about marine life in the tank
- Teach others about the marine environment and how to protect it
through games, story times, crafts and other creative avenues.
- Bring portable touch tank aboard the M/V Thomas Laighton for afternoon cruises to the Isles of Shoals
- Help maintain the tank and collect new animals/plants for the tank
- Assist with school programs, education at fairs and festivals and field trips in our off-site programs
- Design and implement new displays, programs and hands-on activities

The position is open to anyone over 16.  Ideal candidates will be outgoing, creative, have a background in marine science or related field (or be willing to learn quickly!), be willing to work outside in all weather conditions, and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge with the public. Training and reference materials will be provided. We will work with you to obtain college credit if desired. Scheduling can be flexible.
